That is a great answer!

One of the events offered by Flight36 to mothers and sons in our program is monthly group meeting. Each meeting has a special guest or theme with a purpose to educate, inspire and encourage them to trust and follow Jesus.

The last meeting was a great experience for the boys, but really appreciated by the mothers. Let me set the stage for you. We sent out an email prior to the meeting asking all of the mothers to reply to the email with questions they might have regarding their sons. The questions they write could be about anything. Attitude, academics, discipline, apparel, laziness, etc. Needless to say, the questions we received were awesome.

We were excited about this particular meeting because the special guest for the evening were a few members of the mens ministry from Christ Fellowship church. That’s right, we assembled a panel of Godly men that not only follow closely behind Jesus, but were also blessed with raising boys of their own.

The questions and answer session lasted about 90 minutes. Here are a few tips that we picked up the night if you are a single mother raising a boy in a father-absent home.

1.) You have to trust God. The Lord has a plan for your son, even though you may not see or believe it. Pray for your son daily.

2.) You have to be consistent. Your words and actions speak volumes for structure and discipline in the household.

3.) You have to plan ahead. You will accomplish a lot more of your goals if you plan in advance and set reasonable deadlines for your son.

4.) You have to work together. Build a team structure in your house will create smooth harmony in the household. Show him the power of two.

5.) You have to delegate responsibility. Boys like structure. Give him weekly chores and decide consequences if they are not completed.

If you are having trouble with your son, we recommend a book called “Have a new kid by Friday” by Dr. Kevin Leman or call Flight36 for other resources.
